Good all round book on Golfs fundamentals
Id already come across David Leadbetter through golf magazines, so I knew roughly what to expect. Overall I was pleased with the purchase. Mr Leadbetter starts off by covering set-up, then describes the full swing in a step by step manner. He goes on to describe the basic shots in golf (drive, fairway wood, mid-iron, short-iron), followed by a section on the short game. Each section includes some useful drills to re-inforce the teaching. The recurring theme throughout the book is being able to swing the club freely and synchronising the movement of the hands, arms and body. The book seems to cover all of the fundamentals of golf, in a fairly clear and concise manner. Id read a review of the book in the Sunday times implying it was very technical - I honestly found it the opposite, fairly easy to read and apply. My only criticism (and the only reason Im rating it as a 4) was the final chapter, which is a mish-mash of various tips and ideas in no particular order. Whilst there are some useful things in there, I found it (unlike the rest of the book) a little unstructured. That aside, I would say if you want an all-round explanation of Golfs fundamentals along with some good drills, then this is a good buy.

Excellent Fundamentals Instruction & Reference. |
This book is a truly staple of the golf instruction genre for golfers of all levels. Fundamentals are clearly covered ( as they should be ) such as grip, stance, aim, rhythm & tempo as well as more advanced topics such as coping with different lies, practise drills, short game, putting and course management. As a single-figures handicapper I refer to this frequently. Golf is a game of fundamentals more than anything else & this is a book to keep those fundamentals in place for a sound, solid golf game.
