An Australian newspaper has claimed that Woods’s management has been in contact with organisers of the World Golf Championship event, which will be played from Feb 17-21. The BBC say that a “reliable source” has since backed up the Australian report.

It would surprise many if Woods were to return at an Accenture-sponsored event as the company was one of the first to drop him in the aftermath of his sex scandal.

There must also be doubts about whether Woods, who never plays in a tournament he does not believe he will win, could be sufficiently prepared to return so soon.

Most people do not expect him to return before March at the earliest, though it was the Accenture Matchplay he chose to make his comeback from injury last year. He won the tournament in 2003, 2004 and 2008 and has not missed the event since 2001, when it was played in Australia.

Asian No 1 Thongchai Jaidee, of Thailand, had a bogey-free second round of 66 to claim a one-shot halfway lead at the Dubai Desert Classic yesterday.

World No 4 Lee Westwood fired a flawless 65 at Emirates Golf Club to head the chasing pack at seven under par alongside Stephen Dodd, from Wales, and Miguel Angel Jimenez, of Spain.

OK I admit it

I have to admit that I am biased because like him I am Welsh and if nothing else,,, we do support each other, but this really is excellent. Not well written but thats not what I wanted from a sports icon anyway. Hearing it "as it is" is typical Woosie. Life on tour, Family and friends..... my god.... hes normal. This is a "how to do it the tough way" manual for anyone wishing to go on tour.
